Nepal is a country you plan with the calendar, not the price

Same mountain, three very different trips in June, October and January. This planner is deliberately not an AI: every line comes from the four trekking seasons, the Bikram Sambat festival calendar, permit tariffs and the driving times our hosts tell us. You can read the reasoning under the plan and argue with it.

Where you’ll sleep

Uses the 2083/84 BS festival calendar, the four trekking seasons, real driving times and this browser’s prices. Nothing is booked until you tap a stay.

A plan in four numbers

Pick a month and you get: where to sleep each night, what the sky will be doing, which festival you’ll land in, what the permits cost, and the transfers that will actually work — with the reasoning shown next to every choice.

The 2083/84 festival calendar, with travel consequences

Dates follow the ops-published almanac and can move by a day with the lunar tithi — confirm with your host before you book transport. Amber means book early; crimson means half the country is somewhere else. Suggested % is what hosts may apply, not a hidden platform tax.

The festival calendar is published by ops and will appear here once Laravel is reachable.

Permits, in rupees, without the surprise

Prices below are the published government rates in this demo dataset; agencies add a service charge and a licensed guide is mandatory on most routes since 2023. If a listing says it files paperwork for you, that’s the host at the counter, not a website.

  • TIMS cardNPR 2,000 / personThrough a registered agency only. Two passport photos, a copy of your visa.
  • Annapurna Conservation Area (ACAP)NPR 3,000 / person (10 days)Sold in Pokhara, Kathmandu or at Birethanti. SAARC nationals pay far less.
  • Sagarmatha National ParkNPR 3,000 / personPlus the Khumbu Pasanglhamu rural municipality fee of NPR 2,000, which funds village water lines.
  • Upper Mustang restricted areaUSD 50 for the first 10 daysAgency + licensed guide only. Nepali and SAARC citizens: free.
  • Chitwan National ParkNPR 2,000 / foreign adult / dayBuffer-zone and Tharu village visits are usually included by the camp.
  • Bardiya National ParkNPR 500 / foreign adult / dayNepali citizens NPR 100. Guide mandatory for walking safaris.

Three rules that fix most Nepal trips

  1. 1Sleep low, walk highAbove 3,000 m, gain less than 500 m of sleeping altitude per day. It's why the best listings in this demo sit a ridge below the famous view.
  2. 2Build a spare day at every airstripLukla and Jomsom close most afternoons in bad season and every afternoon in the wind. One spare day costs less than one missed flight.
  3. 3Book the night before a festival, and two afterBuses and teahouses empty as everyone goes home for Dashain, then return in a wave. Tihar and Indra Jatra need three weeks of lead time in the valley.

Want the whole country, not one region?

Twelve verified stays in six provinces are in this demo. The map on the homepage shows where they are — and where the gaps are, which in Nepal is just as useful: Karnali and Sudurpashchim are still thin, and we say so rather than listing someone unverified.
